Busy summer!

So this summer has been pretty busy so far and I am loving every moment of it! I’m working at a day camp so i’ve been doing my runs at 5:30 in the morning.

But as of 4 weeks ago I am officially a division 1 runner at university of colorado at boulder!

A lot has happened in a month

So Its been a month since my last post. I finished school and now I am taking a maymester class which ends tomorrow. And I am leaving boulder on saturday. I am sad to be going home but happy at the same time

I pulled my groin and it hurts super bad to run so I haven’t been able to get my runs in. I feel like I am starting to loose my motivation and drive and that scares me alot. I havent gotten my work outs in but before I got injuried I felt like I was loosing motivation. I think getting out of Boulder will be good. But I am starting to look at it this way. A year ago I hadn’t even ran I was still surffering from my knee injury I didnt have any where near the base that I do now and I only came 2 mins away from making the team. I guess maybe I am a little scared as well, I have become so used to getting coached by Joel and running on my own I sort of forgot what it feels like to be on a team and the level of the girls running for CU is very high. I know I will not be the best one but I am scared I won’t be able to keep up with those girls.

I have been lifting weights every day though which is part of the reason why I am injuried. I over did it and now I am paying the price for it. I can’t wait to start running again. Hopefully I can be back out there by Sunday.

I really wish this wasn’t happening though I really wanted to get some hill runs in before I left for the summer.  But on the positive note I won’t be partying as much at home and will get a routine going again. So hopefully I can get some of my drive back. But its hard espically doing the whole thing alone.

But I am excited to race this summer! My goal is to place in the top three in my age category in every race I run.

finals, new PR, and spring

So  I know I haven’t updated in a reallly long time. It’s hard, I’ve been super busy recently. But I have been able to squeeze my runs in. Yesterday I went out for 10 miles, I was so tired but when i started running I don’t know what happened I felt great! I ended up finishing in 75 mins! That is a new PR for me! Today is my off day so I’m in the library watching a movie about eating disorders for my social problems class. They discussed thin-build sports that girls take part of and distance running was the number one thin-build sport to cause eating disorders. I am actually having trouble finishing this movie I’m finding it really upsetting almost. I can’t handle watching a girl make food come back out her feeding tube.

Anyways I woke up to snow on my steps yesterday morning and then I was able to run in shorts! Only in Boulder, only in Boulder!! I am worried about not getting my runs in with finals and all but I know my coach and parents would say the same thing and tell me school comes first. I’ve been thinking more and more about next fall and every time I think about it I get so excited! Just the idea of being able to achieve my goal is unexplainable.

I qualified for the first wave in the boulder/bolder so I gotta figure that out. And then I watched without limits. I know all you guys like that movie, but I must admit that I really liked the movie Prefontaine better. Are there any other movies out there about him? or about other famous runners? I also didn’t like how in the movie without limits they scripted in his famous quotes but the way he says it in the movie is not the way I hear it in my head, in fact they sound less motivational in without limits.

But I must get back to this movie. I promise I’ll start updating more after finals!

recovery run

Today I had an easy 5. I am slowly learning that I can’t run all my runs all out. So I have been working on going at a steady pace and not pushing it incredibly hard. I finished my 5 miles in 39.48  It felt good and I wasn’t pushing it extremely hard either.

I am in tire need of working on my abs though. Every time I start to get my abs in shape I always end up slacking and it goes back to being all gross looking. Also building up my abs will help my form with running.  Tomorrow I have off which should be nice because I need to finish a Philosophy paper and then I am going to the Rockies vs. Mets game with Peter!

Today during my run I thought about try outs and how I have to be ready for any kind of weather, it was a little hot today so thats what made me think of it. The weather for this past year’s try outs were amazing. But I really do need to be prepared for anything. And I have a feeling this summer is going to be VERY hot and humid.

Well I need to go dry my hair for the nuggets game tonight.

GO NUGGETS!

Update:

So I haven’t written in here in a while. I’m laggin I know I know. So yesterday I had my 12 miles. I felt kinda slugish but i ended up finishing in 1:49 which isn’t too bad. Today I have an easy 5 and then tomorrow I am off. The past week’s runs have been pretty good the weather has been great! Sunny and warm just how I like it!

I think I may have had another leap in my training I feel like I have gotten faster and the times that I have been hitting can prove that. I need to get into the gym a little more and lift. I think I am going to try and do that on thursday. Tonight I am going to the Nuggets game at the pepsi center with Peter and Zoe I am so stoked even though we have nosebleed seats it should still be pretty fun!

A windy four miles

So yesterday I had my 4 mile recovery run. I also got some resistance training doing it. It was unbelievable windy yesterday it took my 37 mins to go  4 miles.   Really slow but I set out with a ‘going slow’ mentality. It was very relaxed. But also the wind was pushing me back there was times when it came very close to knocking me over. Boulder gets very windy and it will stay windy for the  whole day I hate it.

Today I have a track workout but it snowed last night so I have to see if the track has melted yet.  I was running in shorts and a long sleeve yesterday and then today I wake up to snow…only in Boulder would this happen.

Broke my time for 10 miles!

I skipped my long run yesterday because I decided to go snowboarding at Breckenridge. But I went out and did it today. I decided I would do it slow. The first 5 miles I came in around 40:30ish. I wasn’t trying to push it or anything and frankly I didn’t feel that good my back hurt every time I took a deep breath. I ended up coming in at 81 mins for ten miles! I am so excited about it. On friday I did four miles on the tredmill and I ended up going to the WilVill rec center it was great the tred mill isnt as good there but each one has a persona 24 inch flatscreen and direct tv! it was awesome and alot closer to my aparment!

I am cutting this short because the Butler vs. Duke game is on! LETS GO BUTLER! I’ve learned that I always am for the underdog, but I really hope bulter wins. But a bigger question is…what am I going to watch now that the final four is over? This winter has been sooo amazing for sports started with the xgames, then the olympics, hockey and basketball season then now march madness. There’s still the NBA and the stanly cup so im not too worried.

Welp the game is back on!

An amazing track workout!

So yesterday I had 1.5 mile repeats. I was supposed to come in at the mile at 7:40 and finish the full thing at 11:30….I ended up finishing in 10:59 for my first one and 10:48 for my second one! I was so stoked on my performance yesterday! And during my 100 meter warm up strides I hit the first one at 15 seconds! I’ve never done a stride that fast!

Yesterday was great and since I had 2 bad runs the previous days it felt good to have a really good work out! Today I only have 4 easy miles. Its not as warm out today but it sure is sunny! God I love Boulder

2 bad runs in a row

So yesterday all I could get through was five miles I finished in 40:58. I felt so bad yesterday my lungs hurt and I had that gross iron taste in my mouth.  My lungs haven’t ever hurt from running and I haven’t had that taste of blood in my mouth since I ran freshman year in high school.

Today my lungs felt fine but my legs felt really heavy and I was just really sluggish. I don’t know what is going on. Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it was the not keeping up with my workouts over spring break, maybe it has to do from coming back from sea level to the high elevation but that didn’t happen over winter break.

I have a track workout tomorrow so hopefully I will preform better. This is just really irritating and I hate the feeling of being out of shape more than anything! Hopefully the weight I gained over spring break will come off by the end of the week.

Lesson learned: If you decided to indulge in pizza and bagels and all that other great east coast food…THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES

I got back to Boulder last night. The flight wasn’t too long and Zoe picked me up from the airport. It’s nice to be back I feel healthier just being here. And of course it is a sunny and gorgeous day out, perfect day for a long run.  I have 10 miles to do today. It’s nice not having any work due this week.

It’s time to get my butt back in gear with running!
